A child takes your hand.
Tells you the rules of the game.
And brings you along on a walk in their own universe.

In the fall of 2015, we co-produced the performance My Place (MIT STED) with the Australian The Walking Neighbourhood: A series of short, site-specific walkings created in collaboration with 9-12 year old children from both Mols and Gellerup; guided by the children themselves. My Place (MIT STED) was an artistic exploration of two local areas through childrens' perspective, where adults can (re)experience an area through the eyes of a child.

My Place (MIT STED) challenged the power structures between children and adults, as the roles were reversed when the children were guiding, and the adults let go of control for a while and let the child take over. It is about comfort and loss of control, and this theme was elaborated in the selection of areas: Mols and Gellerup, one of the - perhaps - most safe areas in the country, and one of the most exposed residential areas.
The project worked with exchanging cultures and breaking down prejudices. Children from each area participated in a common workshops, and together with their families and others they participated in each others' walkings and experienced each others' local areas through these created walkings. The audience who experienced performances in both places got a unique insight in differences and similarities in the lives of children in Denmark.

My Place (MIT STED) was visited by TV2 Østjylland, watch the feature here.
